Christmas love story: Christmas disappearance

Christmas was approaching and Carolina and Javier were already distraught. They did not want to repeat the Christmases of the previous year, the first ones they had spent together, or at least tried to, and which turned out to be so disastrous that they almost put an end to their love story. They weren’t willing to go through that again, but they also didn’t know how to avoid family conflicts.

Family conflicts at Christmas

  • Last Christmas he eluded the gifts and left them with a bitter taste, traces of discussions, disagreements and misunderstandings caused by their respective families. A Christmas spent in tears and with the fear of breaking their love story that they were still building. Carolina and Javier were happy together, but their families did not think the same.
  • Carolina’s family was not willing to welcome a man with a dark past, two divorces behind him, and a stay in a rehabilitation clinic for alcoholics with open arms at their Christmas table. Javier’s family, who considered his son more of a hero than a flesh and blood man with weaknesses, did not accept this middle-class daughter-in-law, dressed in low-cost clothing. There was no way to present it in society.
  • With this scenario, Christmas family gatherings became a real hell for the couple, who dodged the poisoned darts of their loved ones as best they could. Their relationship was about to become an impossible love story, exhausted as they ended up tearing down every wall that their family built. And this year they did not want to repeat it.

Breaking with everything

  1. Despite being two independent people, neither Javier nor Carolina wanted to hurt their family. Finding the balance between making her life her own and sharing something of hers with her family took months, especially due to family pressure to comply with traditions. Since they lived together, there was no need to share Sunday meals with the same family. Thus, Javier visited his parents and Carolina visited hers.
  2. But what would happen at Christmas? They decided to impose their love, prioritize their happiness over family commitments. This year they would not spend Christmas with the family. Without the need to break family ties, without making scandals, without reproaches, this year they did not intend to share Christmas with anyone. Just them and their love story.
  3. Thus, they took out a large part of their savings to protect their relationship on a whim. A flight took them to the other part of the world, far enough to experience a different Christmas, where there was no snow, only sun, where they did not need a coat, but a swimsuit. And right on the beach they enjoyed the best Christmas, far from their family, far from the world, but so close to each other.
