Helen of Troy and Paris: the love story that caused a war

There are couples that never go out of style. There are love stories so intense that they live forever. This is the case of Paris and Helen of Troy, two characters that could be a legend or could be true, but whose love transcended times until it was perpetuated as the symbol of predestined love. Together despite everything, together whatever the cost, even if the cost is a war. This is the love story that sparked the Trojan War.

Forced to love each other by divine mandate

  • Although she is known as Helen of Troy, it turns out that Helen was not from Troy, but from Sparta. And it turns out that she was the most beautiful woman in the world. Paris was a prince who came from Troy and to whom the goddess of love, Aphrodite, had promised the most beautiful woman in the world. So the love between Paris and Helena was decided by the gods, it was predestined.
  • One fine day Helen was in her palace in Sparta with her husband and the Trojan prince Paris appeared there. As was customary by the laws of hospitality in ancient Greece, they gave him accommodation and entertained him with banquets, gifts and good conversation. And Paris couldn’t take his eyes off the beautiful Helena and Helena couldn’t stop looking at that young prince who by force had to be the famous Prince Charming.
  • So Paris and Helena went crazy in love. Helena eloped with Paris and together they went to Troy. Although later many said that the Trojan prince had kidnapped her. The Greeks could not bear the shame of the Trojan or the shame of the Spartan. The fact is that all the Greek kingdoms came together to attack the citadel of Troy. And this is how the most famous war of all time began: the Trojan War.

The love story that ended in war

  1. Happiness did not last long for the couple in love. As soon as the Greek troops landed on the Trojan beaches, conjugal happiness turned into a hell of guilt and blame. The people of Troy were surrendered to Helen’s charms and were not willing to give her back to the Greeks. At least at the beginning. But when the years passed and the war continued, they began to see the beautiful Helena as the cause of her misfortunes.
  2. And Helena was consumed by guilt and Paris by the impotence of not being able to end the war. They only had a few moments alone to love each other and forget about the harsh reality. Because in the privacy of her bedroom they were still two lovers who were willing to do anything to be together. So the gods had arranged it. However, divine support did not last forever.
  3. This love story could only have one ending and it is a sad ending. When the Greeks devised the famous Trojan horse that leveled the city and ended the war, Paris was brutally murdered, while Helen was led, desolate but dignified, to meet her with her husband. Helena spent the rest of her days with her husband in Sparta, but they say that she spent the nights shedding tears for Paris, who was the only love of her life.
