Santa Claus Love Story: A Story of Illusion at Christmas

Nuria waited each year with nerves, enthusiasm and urgency for the arrival of Santa Claus. But she Nuria was not a girl, she had long since passed 30 and it had been about five years since she had begun to live a particular love story with Santa Claus. After the family Christmas Eve dinner, Nuria would run to her apartment so that Santa Claus would find her asleep.

Discovering Santa Claus

  • The first time happened on that Christmas five or six years ago, when Nuria had decided not to celebrate them. Christmas was a hypocritical torment to him and her family gatherings seemed completely unbearable to him. She made the decision. If she didn’t believe in Christmas she didn’t have to join in the celebration.
  • So he stayed home that Christmas Eve. She ate peppers and chips for dinner, read for a while, and went to bed like any other day. She woke up after midnight with immense pleasure. Someone was waking her up with caresses and kisses, someone was waking her up, in every sense of the word, because she had never, ever felt like she had reacted like that.
  • Curiously, he was not afraid of that someone. Reason told her that he could be an intruder that she had broken in to steal and that he would harm her. But there was a touch of kindness in that man’s fingers that kept her calm, safe, secure. And happy. She knew it was Santa Claus the next morning when she woke up to find a gift and a note on her pillow.
  • The note read: “Don’t you believe in Christmas? Christmas is as special as you are.” It was then that she remembered the night of passion that she had had, with a stranger, with a beard, yes, but with a body that in no way resembled the image that Nuria had of Santa Claus.

Love story with Santa Claus

  1. Since that Christmas Eve, Nuria began to believe in Christmas, in the magic of Christmas, and she set out to spread her enthusiasm to others. The change in her attitude towards Nuria was more than evident, but she did not tell anyone about her love secret. Nobody would believe her. She would just enjoy Christmas Eve dinner as a family, then she would run out and fall asleep until Santa Claus arrived.
  2. Santa Claus came every year, faithful to his love date with Nuria, perhaps because he wanted her to continue believing in Christmas or perhaps because it had become her own illusion. The annual meeting with Nuria was what drove Santa Claus to continue doing his work, in a world where fewer and fewer people believed in him.
  3. This is how this Christmas love story was forged, based on illusions, gifts, dreams and passion. But also based on complicity and support, which cannot be missing in any love story. Because Santa Claus kept Nuria’s illusion for Christmas alive, while Nuria kept the meaning and essence of Santa Claus himself.
